Re: Macon/Huntsville-Some Not Executed

I have somewhere the following Information on Shelby being in Batesville. On Sundays he would have parades through town and had a mock battle at Camp Nannie Wilson. The Battle was between Marmaduke's Cavalry and Shelby's Cavalry, they were showing off jumping rail fences and burning a lot of powder and having a grand time. The town folks came out and picnicked and watched like it was a big sporting event. At the end of the mock battle Marmaduke's men presented Gen. Shelby with a fancy pair of silver spurs and Shelby's men presented Gen. Marmaduke with a very fine grey horse.
Shelby had a camp south of Batesville across the river, but it was not Nannie Wilson. Camp Nannie Wilson was on the northern edge of Batesville on the same side of the river as Batesville.
And a note here re-enactments are not a modern event this was summer of 1863 one of the earliest mock battles I've ran across.
