"Brown's Battalion" - Columbus, MS?

Gentlemen & Ladies:

I have a GGG-grandfather who was in Co. K (Kemper Fencibles), 43rd MS Infantry.

During the summer of 1862, this company was an independent one, which eventually petitioned the 43rd MS to allow it to become part of that regiment.

In July 1862, prior to joining the 43rd MS, Capt. Wm. A. Love of the Kemper Fencibles asked for quartermaster supplies at Columbus, MS, stating that he was captain of "Co. C, Brown's Battalion." The order was approved by Gen. Daniel W. (?) Adams.

I have been unable to find any additional information regarding this particular "Brown's Battalion," and I was wondering if anyone on the board with keener reserach skills than my own might be able to shed some light on this battalion.

I fear that it was just a local (i.e., Columbus, MS, area) battalion with no official CS designation, and, thus, there will be no additional information on the unit.

Thanks for any help you can lend me! -- Jim Huffman, Kemper Fencibles, Co. K, 43rd MS Infantry

PS: I've scoured the OR and Fold3.com to the best of my abilities for info on "Brown's Battalion."
