15th MS Sharpooters did exist in June of 1862. Record of events of both companies state they were stationed in Tupelo, MS in June 1862. It also states they left Corinth, MS, May 25, 1862 and arrived at Baldwyn's Ferry, May 31, 1862, left Baldwyn's June 4, 1862 and arrived back in Tupelo June 7, 1862. Signed by Capt. A. T. Hawkins- RG 109, M 269 NARA

Also in the compiled service records of William Aimision, Co A of this battalion is the following info: Note: The men of this company were transferred from the 32nd MS, 33rd MS, 16th AL and 44th TN In the remarks section: A company of sharpshooters were formed from Wood's Brigade, Army of MS, May 21, 1862. A second company was formed in the same brigade in July 1862. Commencing the latter part of Dec. 1862 the two companies served as one command. (Also states that some men appeared to be detailed to this command from the 45th Al after Dec. 1862) Early in 1864 the two companies were consolidated into one. Organization was declared illegal and members directed to be restored to their original commands by order of Adj. & Ins. General's Office, dated Mar. 30, 1864, Richmond, VA.

The above info from the remarks section is contained on all records of men in the 15th MS SS.
