Re: Leech & Ridgon, Columbus MS

I forgot to add, when Leech and Rigdon relocated to Georgia, they changed their name to Rigdon, Ansley, and Co. (although I did show the name difference on the other part of the sting). Leech and Rigdon at Columbus, according to Coates and Thomas, put out 1,500 (second highest only to Griswold and Gunnison), and the Rigdon, Ansley & Co. factory (after the move) in Georgia put out 1,000.

Nevertheless, as an old ex-cop (civilian and military), I'm more comfortable with a pistol than a rifle, so I do try to stretch my impression so I can gain access to them. I will need access to them with the TST group, since the local unit was cavalry. My best educated guess, again, is that, owing to the Yankee government getting rid of the Walkers and Dragoons just prior to the War, and reports had a lot of these old weapons going to local militias in the South before 1861, I should try to point to one of them. Still, since cavalrymen in the TSTs were encouraged to bring their own pistols and, in many cases, were furnished some money by the State of Texas to help defray the cost, I can see the Colt Navy 1851 as having some use there, even though the Leech and Rigdon, et. al, are a lot less likely. I guess, at that point, I should set my "most likely" list as follows:

1) Walker/Dragoon

2) 1851 Colt Navy

3) Confederate Navy knock-off

After that, I'm unsure, but I always have to put my own finances into account. These above-named weapons are the most affordable for reproductions, through Uberti of Pietta. The others are pretty much out of my budget.
