Sorry it's been so long, Alan, but after a lot of study about everywhere my ancestor went with the 26th, I decided to go with a late war impression, when the 26th was a part of the ANV, keeping mind, however, that I won't be re-enacting 26th, since I live so far down in southwestern Texas, where all of the re-enactment groups are Texas. I got a sweet deal on an almost-untouched Armisport Enfield (the owner was a sergeant in the Army, and we talked vet to vet). For when I do Texas State Troops (home guard) living history, I got a sweet deal on a Pietta Navy .36 that was on sale at Cabela's, but I won't be using it with my 26th impression. I altered my Richmond III early war uniform by removing the corporal stripes from the trousers, removing the blue point cuffs, changing from AVC buttons to Mississippi "I" buttons, exchanging the infantry blue corporal stripes for black sergeant, and exchanging the Alabama seal buckle for Mississippi seal (since my ancestor was also a corporal in the US Army 1855-1860, from a Mississippi unit). Eventually, I'll transition to a brown jean wool frock (for ceremonial purposes in the SCV), or similar Columbus Depot with hand dyed indigo collar/cuffs. This will be more for an early war impression again, but (again), this is not for re-enacting, just for honoring my ancestor at SCV events and ceremonies. Another reason for the frock is because my Camp uses brown jean wool frocks for their color guard and honor guard. I'd like to do more, but I also have to weigh fitting in with the camp's ceremonies, too.
