Moved from Arkansas CWMB

Can anyone tell me when and for how long the term "Confederacy" was used to refer to the political bond of southern states? Would this term have been commonly used by 1838 Texas politicians to indicate southern interests or just an alliance of like-minded persons?

Any opinions on this one?
