Teresa, the term "confederacy" and "confederate States" (lower-case "c" in both cases) was often used in reference to the "Union", from the earliest days of the Republic to the beginning of the Civil War. Indeed, the Declaration of Causes for Secession of the State of Georgia uses the terms many times to refer to the Union or United States. The term "Confederacy" and "Confederate States" (upper-case "C" in both cases) was associated exclusively with the seceded Southern states upon the establishment of the government known as the Confederate States of America.
