But the Articles of Confederation was a perpetual union. It was common to use the terms Federal or Confederation interchangeably in the 18th and 19th Century when discribing the limits of states sovernity within a Union of states. Especially prior to the Civil War in the U.S. The U.S. Constitution to this day has no perpetual union clause as did the Articles of Confederation.
