Most interesting. Didn't Rip Ford become a Texas Ranger Captain? His nickname had something to do with "rest in peace" didn't it? My maternal grandmother was a McCollum. There was a McCollum who fought at Bexar, before the Alamo. I don't know if he was a relative or not. He came from Mississippi. My aunt Catherine married a Texan, Robert McBrayer. He fought in Italy with the 36th Division, and while in Georgia, ran the Stonewall Inn and Motel. It was a restaurant on the Atlanta Road near Paces Ferry. The dining room had glass cases with rifles, swords, bayonets, etc. from the WTBS. Some cases were filled with Minie' balls to about six inches. They always fascinated me. Later, Uncle Robert went back to Texas, and ran a restaurant in Mesquite, near some stockyards. When I was in Airman school in Norman, OK I'd go down to visit. A lot of cowboys ate at his restaurant, and some of them took me out to a ranch not too far from Dallas. They introduced me at a rodeo once. I had to stand and wave my hat. (One of Uncle Robert's; I also wore his boots.) LOL Stan
