Stamp and Foner are alike in their view on the war. Foner's present day views are just a tad leftist to me. I will say this, he's a gentleman. Meet him once and ask him three or four questions on the war. Took the time to explain his views and though he has credentials out the wazoo (whether, you like his views or not Penny) he was not boorish, patronizing or had the attitude I'm Eric Foner and you do not posses my knowledge. Like I said Penny you can disagree on something and not hate the other guy. I'm as conservative as William Buckley and Eric Foner shore ain't that. One other thing Penny, those of us who think we posses all knowledge on the war, might ask ourselves if we have Foner's history credentials and if not why are we so smug in our views. I mean that toward both yanks and rebs.
