Perhaps getting gypped on the pension was one of the least insults.
Never has the government of the USA allowed pensions to be given to men who bore arms against the USA (as we would all agree CSA vets/soldiers did). Therefore, theyt were not "gypped" out of anything. Granted, some who served in CSA units and later served in USA units did receive pensions, because in their pensions they did not admit their CSA service.
Don't get me wrong, I do not exclude them from the "Greatest Generation" as stated in your e-mail. I just wanted to clarify that they were not gypped out of a pension.
