The Mexican War was not about Revolution, the conversations were not about Mexico having a Revoltution.
The Northern States were talking secession because of the United States attacking Mexico and taking in more land for the Slave owners to occupy.
You see, the Northern States cryed Secession as much as the Southern States when things didn't suit them. It was the ole "I'm gonna take my ball and quit, if I don't get my way". So therefore Lincoln's speech was very much about secession, not revolution.
I agree it is possible for him to change his mind on the subject, but I also think it was because of politics. Yes I believe he did have an agenda against the secedeing States, leaving because he(Lincoln) was elected. I personnaly would have taken offense at the action.
