Re: Fort Moultrie Threat

"Its a wonder he held out as long as he did..."

Really??

Are we trying to be revisionist historians here? By what use of military tactics or manuver did he accomplish this feat?

Anderson was in Fort Sumter of 106 days before the Confederates fired one shot at it. What prevented them from doing that months earlier?

Could it have been that the Southern people were forebearing of Anderson's threatening occupation and were trying to arrive at a diplomatic peaceful solution to the situation without an armed confrontation being necessary?

Could those negociations have been prolonged, because President Buchanan deferred the process to the then President elect Abraham Lincoln, who had no intentions of arriving at a "Peaceful" settlement within the southern states rejoining his Glorious Union?

Did not the authorities at Charleston provide Anderson with provisions, during those 106 days, while these negociations were in progress? Not only his provision they even carried his mail to Washington. Tell me how he mailed all those reports to Washington while he was bottled-up inside Fort Sumter? And only stopped those provisions when the negociation in Washington DC reached an impass because of Lincoln stance.

No, the Confederates controlled the situation in Charleston Harbor, not Anderson. He was a prisoner at Fort Sumter. He had big guns but he could not "Politically" fire them, even in his own defence, without changing the northern justification of the starting War.

Which still goes back to my original question, What threat did Anderson face at Fort Moultrie from the people of Charleston?

No one has yet documented that Anderson faced any threat at all, except in his own imaginations, or on political orders from Winfield Scott and Abraham Lincoln.
