Your Mr. Floyd who was totally devoid of charcter would be the culprit. Here is a man who resigned because he knew that the explosion was coming and wanted to get out of Washington as soon as he could. While Secretary of Defense he purposly shipped all the war materials that he could take out of northern Arsenals and armories to the southern states knowing that the south would need them in case the north responded to the actions of the south. That would have been in oppisition to the oath of office that he was under when he did it. Only the lowest type of person would do something like that in my opinion. He was truly one bad apple.
Then he joined the rebel army and when confronted with adversity such as General Grant at Ft. Donelson, what did he do then, he skipped out the back door and left General Buckner to take the heat. Looks he is not to faithful to that oath either. Wonder why he did not want to meet the US authorities then. This one man is responsoble for so many lost lives that it is beyond calculation in my opinion. I am surprised the the people of the south even record him as part of their effort. and that is just the nice things I have to say about him.
