As infantry I've had the pleasure of feeling the receiving end of your craft. There is always the muzzle safety zone to protect us against injury but I've been on the hairy edge of that zone. Many times I've ended up falling dead right in the line of fire and feeling the effect of being bounced off the ground by each shot. Didn't hurt me, but it sure did impress me. The worst was a little bronze 6-pounder howitzer that I swear they were double loading, man that blast would cut right through my head. Where ever that gun was placed we would try to get away from it, and it was on our side! Leasons learned....never fall dead near fences, walls, or earthworks, they attract attention and you'll be blasted by both sides trying to capture the ground. I have laid on the ground for what seemed hours, trying to cover my vital parts and keep a finger in my ears, while Yank and Reb infantry blasted away over my poor dead body, unspent powder bouncing off of me! No one could see me for the smoke and the noise was terrific.
