I love it David. We do indeed sometimes load double "cartridges". I've got an iron six pounder and have guys shaking their heads as to how that thing is so loud. Of course it depends on how you make your rounds. Funny thing is......I can load a single 10 ounce load (spec for a barrel of that caliber in reenactments) and get huge a blast and report. But I can split that charge in half and load the two individual halves and get a noticably different sound. At that Hollywood Cemetery thing a few weeks ago we loaded double ten ounce charges. It was depressing the barrel and slamming it back on the screw and walking the gun up the hill like we were shooting live. Some of the "audience" commented on the impression we made. I like it when other gun crews don't want to be beside you on the field. Better to be feared than loved. hehehehehe. And don't worry, we always watch out for you foot and horse soldiers. It can be a dangerous exhibition. I love blackpowder!
