Don Helms great-great "grandpappy" was a John William Helms of Coffee County, AL. His CMSR is rather short, but I've uploaded it to the following link:

Below is the info from the Alabama Department of Archives & History database. By the way, most genealogical records show John W. Helms born in 1844. He appears to have "fudged" a little on his age and may have not been more than 15 or 16 at the time of his enlistment.

I've just looked up the "Census Of Confederate Soldiers Living In Coffee, County Alabama 1907" and it confirms he was a young "feller" when he "jined up".
