Of what real legal value was Steward's "Pledge".
Was it Condoned by Congress....and/or....the President??
I don't believe a "personal pledge" has any real legality, and as the persons Stewart was "dealing' with, would have know this, but, still, they grasped it like a lifeline,to prove there was a understanding between the secessionist and the Federal Government. Was there a Formal document presented by Steward to back up his "Pledge"??
