Our beloved Dr. Foner took great issue with and called David Horowitz's claims that his uncle and father were communists a lie and caused a national publication to withdraw the story. He stated that they were simply Union members and organizers. I guess Mr. Horowitz should have stated the following to be more accurate:

In 1941 the City College of New York fired over fifty faculty members who were believed to be Communists. The allegations were made by the state legislature’s Rapp-Coudert Committee, a committee formed to investigate subversive activities in the state’s educational system during the period of the Hitler-Stalin partnership that had the Communist Party USA opposing England in its war against the Nazis. Among the faculty members terminated were Columbia graduates Jack and Philip Foner, the father and uncle, respectively, of current Columbia professor of history Eric Foner.

...but the son and nephew states they were just Union members.

This guy has clearly blamed the U.S. and "American Imperialism" for the 9/11 attacks. This guy is an "America hater".

I will say that his writings on Reconstruction that show how little the North planned and did for the freed slaves after the Civil War is accurate in my opinion.
