I recently jumped in on a Huffington Post debate over the renaming of the University of Texas hall (William Simkins Hall) because he had been in the Klan, he also is one those cadets that is credited in firing the first shot at the "Star of the West". Now I could care less if they rename it, but the things that were being said rubbed me the wrong way. This comment....

"Thanks, Marine. As I note in the lead, I was aware that the naming happened in the heyday of segregation. What you struggle less with than I do is why so many people in the South seem so coolly unbothered by the intertwining of Southern tradition and the diaboloical aspects of slavery."

I wrote...

"Why isn't Boston, Massachusetts renaming Faneuil Hall or Brown University in Rhode Island? All financed and built by the profits of the slave trade. The Faneuil and Brown families being some of the largest and wealthiest of the slave trade companies."

So far.. no response.
