Re: Washington vs Lincoln
In Response To: Re: Washington vs Lincoln ()

There are a couple of items, that are in todays news that may be a valid argument for a state to withdraw from the Union. For sure the border states and also the Gulf states. When the 'Union' fails to honor it's 'contract or compact' a state should have another avenue to use to take care of the issue pertinent to the states needs. This is the one item that the Founders probably should have spent a bit more time thinking over. Maybe they felt there would not be such a need. Maybe they were just tired and wanted to go home. As it is now, more people are understanding the 'states rights' issue much better when it isn't applied to the subject so many glued on it 147 years ago. When the 'Union' hinders a state from protecting itself, be it from other humans or environmental damage, the state should be able to have some option open. When the 'Union' fails in it's end of the bargain, why would a state want to stay in?
