I found a newpaper article on General Sidney Johston's burial at New Orleans, April 12, 1862. There was no funeral, no military escort, only a few carriages and a handful of people. It was planned, it said, for him to have a ceremonial funeral sometime in the future. The paper said this excuse was not satifactory of the many dissappointed.
I found another reference that stated a funeral did not happen until his body was removed to Texas in 1867.
The highest ranking general killed in the war, and no funeral?
