I can see how you may not like the character or the man. If people make up their minds on character, they'd possibly believe every big city cop was on the take or something else. It was just a role. I didn't care about his politics. What I appreciated was the way he showed a Southern born man as mannerly, kind, thoughtful and didn't always tote a spit can. Barney was just a character to most of the people I know. His lack of grace was a bit overdone but I don't know anyone who took it as serious. I liked the characters and the mix in the show. Didn't everyone have an Aunt Bea in their family? If not, that's sad.
