I can tell you that at that same time, 1870-80s, the USPS did not like PO names that were two words...My GG randpa Ephraim O Rushing was putting to have the local PO at his home, the folks wanted to call it Locust Grove. The PO denied that name and just called it Rushing since he was going to be postmaster, so Rushing, Arkansas came in to existence...still a sign on highway in the Ozarks from both ways denoting it, but nothing there except a church and a non functional USFS fire tower
