For half a dozen years, a friend of mine has owned a fine ambrotype. While viewing numerous images in books and magazines, he came across another image of the same soldier. That soldier is Andrew H. Ramsay. Of interest,he is wearing the insignia of a first sergeant, while the NPS site lists him as entering as a first lieutenant, leaving as a captain. Wearing a dark state issue frock, is the image antebellum, or are records incomplete?

A retouched copy of the image was published in 2005 in a book by Ron Field, "The Confederate Army 1861-65 (1) South Carolina & Mississippi". Osprey publishing. Provide your email address if you would like a copy.
