Re: Flag or standard for 3rd Tenn Mounted Infantry

I appreciate the information about the flag/banner. My wife's great-great grandfather(William C. Morelock) was with the 3rd from the beginning starting as Capt of Company F and later as a Major before resigning his position July 4th 1864(on his resignation letter he wrote that he was a Lt Col but marked it out and under it wrote Maj - we don't know if this had anything to do with his resignation or not). According to family history he was killed by bushwhackers before returning home , we believe in North Carolina because of court records saying he died in N.C. September 1864. We have been trying to locate a grave or other information about his death but since there were so many killings of soldiers by both sides from bushwhackers along the N.C./Tn border of the Unaka Mountains(ref. Confederate Dissension in the Unakas by Sandra Ratledge)we doubt that we will have much luck. If someone from the family had knowledge of the burial site or information of his death, it must have gone to the grave with them.
Thanks for the info. John Brown
