Re: Tenn. 27th Infantry Regiment - -

Thank you so much for answering my query. What a wonderful website!!!
We do not have any information re: death of Sion. Goodspeed's lists his death as 1862 in the biography of his son, William. There was no reason given. The 27th Inf. Reg. were stationed at Henderson (Station) until after the Battle of Belmont. I researched that. I have copies of the Index cards for Sion/Leon. One looks like Sion, the other is definately Leon, and I believe was written at a later date. There is a #49992870 - - is that the reference to the National Archives original record? There was a reorganization in the Regiment and Co. "A" was formerly "E"--Men from Benton Co. Co. "E" was formerly "G", Men from Decatur Co. The reorganization was in May, 1862. Sion/Leon was gone, that is my reasoning in thinking the second Index card was written at a later date. Sion was from Henderson Co, altho' he was in Benton Co. on the 1860 census. The index card says "Died 5, Dec, '61," not killed. Maybe he was ill and did not leave Columbus, or he died along the way.
