Re: Tenn. 27th Infantry Regiment - -

Alan: Thanks again. We feel that Sion must have made it with the Regiment to Columbus. Maybe he was ill at Columbus and left behind. Columbus was a large camp and it was here that the 27th Infantry Regiment was furnished arms for the first time. They were ordered out on Nov. 22, 1861 for Bowling Green.
There is a Columbus-Belmont State Park located near the town of Columbus. I understand that the farmhouse that served as the camp hospital is now the museum. It would be nice if it had some record of the patients that were housed there. If this soldier died while at Columbus there should be a cemetery near by, but if he was well enough to leave and head for Bowling Green he may be one of those Unknown markers. I surely hope not. It would be nice to know where and how he died. I'd like to think that the family would have gone to recover the body and taken him home.
This is a great website and I've enjoyed reading the postings. I've learned a lot. I guess I've always known about the Civil War, but now I am learning the hardships, brother against brother, no food, measles, etc. I'm new to computer genealogy and history, and I love it. I'm assuming the link that says "Military Service Records and Pension Applications" is how to order copies. I'll do it!!!
