The information that I have came from the TSLA and consists of a copy of two records that I assumed were official. One has the information regarding enlistment, where, for the period, Company Muster Call. There is a section re: pay (this soldier never received any pay.) At the bottom of this record under remarks: Died 5 Dec,1861. (not killed) The second record just has name, the number I quoted and the printed notation that there were no medical or personal papers included. Gerald D Hodge says that these cards are not the record. I have sent to the National Archives for the service files to see what I will get.
I'm assuming that he was with the unit when it was at Columbus, because the Regiment wasn't ordered out until November 22, 1861. If he was sick he could have stayed there or if he went with the Regiment he died shortly after leaving Columbus. I hate to think of him out there in an unmarked grave. From what I am learning there are a lot of them.
