Re: Tennessee Civil War flags and more

Hi Beulah,

I wish I knew where the two Union Tennessee cavalry flags were today. Almost none of them exist from the war which is indeed sad.

The Confederates, and Federals, were supposed to send in captured flags to their respective war departments, but that often did not happen. Some may have been sent to officer's homes, some to state governors etc.

Color bearers and members of the color guard are most often marked as such on their cards in the Compiled Service Records. Most of the Union CSRs have not been microfimed as yet and I am not sure of the status of the Tennessee Unit regimental CSRs but if they have not been then a trip to the National Archvies in Washington, DC is in order to see the actual cards themselves.

Hope this was helpful. If you find anything please do let me know.
