His file contains a letter from the Adjutant General, War Department to Mr. J. Grover Estes, P. O. Box 237, Memphis 1, Tennessee, dated 15 October 1951,

"The records show that Marshall T. Polk, a Captain of Captain Marshall T. Polk's Battery, Tennessee Light Artillery, Cofederate States Army, entered the service 17 May 1861, at Nashville, Tennessee. The company muster roll for 6 August to 31 October 1861, shows him present. This company appears to have been disbanded about April 1862.

The records also show that Marshall T. He name appears on a report of officers and men at the p Post of Aberdeen, Mississippi, for the month of August 1864, which shows him on duty as Commandant.
