Re: West Tennessee Unionists - updated monograph..
Studying guerrilla warfare along the Tennessee and North Carolina border I have heard of both Daniel Ellis and James Giles (should that be James Madison Giles). Ellis was known as a scout and crack shot. In a gunfight/duel Lt. James Madison Giles (USA) would kill Captain L.J. Pearson (USA) on October 22 1864. Giles again "took shanks mare", though when captured he was cleared due to a verdict of self-defense. Giles was wounded in the hip. Welcome to the board.
James Turchin.
