Have also been trying to get some information since my g-gfather, Jesse Knighten DuBose also served in this regiment. Quoted below is what I've presently acquired:

The above was in the form of a "Xeroxed" copy of a 3" X 5" "index card" forward from the TSA in Austin, upon my request. You might give them a try for your ancestor's file.

According to one source, "Bourland's Regiment" was primarily involved in screening the frontier (then not too far west of present day Dallas) from hostile Indians and surpressing Union sympathizers, of which there apparently were a considerable number along the Red River (influence of "Bloody Kansas?") This latter activity apparently involved some lynching (on both sides) and although less publicized than the bloody affairs along the the Kansas-Missouri border, were equally as vicious. Since the sketchy record only covers Sep 1 - Oct 31 1864 I have no idea of whether they were formally surrendered with Kirby Smith's remaining Trans-Mississippi CSA in May 1865 or if they simply disbanded and went home after the news of Appomatox reached Texas.
