Re: Randal's Regiment of Texas Lancers

Ms Nobles,

I find a James Truitt in Company E of the 3rd Texas Cavalry Regiment , also known as the South Kansas-Texas Mounted Volunteers. The reason I think this might be your James Alfred Truitt is that there is also a J.H. ( Joshua Hall? ) Truitt in Company E of the same regiment. Plus, this regiment was raised in northcentral, northeast and east central Texas. The regiment mustered in at Dallas on July 13, 1861 and was surrendered at Citronelle , Alabama on May 4, 1865 by Lt. Gen. Richard Taylor who commanded all the CSA troops in the region. I know you had said something earlier about Randal's Lancers. Are you fairly certain that James and Joshua served in Randal's Lancers? The only J.H. Truitt is see serving in a Texas Cavalry unit is the one I mentioned in the 3rd Texas Cav. The 3rd Texas had a very distinguished record. They were a hard working/ fighting unit who pitched in early in the Indian Territory battles and fought at the terrible slaughters at Franklin and Nashville. Could these be your your folks? Let me know if I can help.
Best Regards , Craig Morin
