Re: Randal's Regiment of Texas Lancers

Ms Nobles,

I think those two Truitts I found in the 3rd Texas Cavalry are your folks. There is a good website for the 3rd Texas Cav and it shows that the Company your folks were in ( Company E) was raised by a Captain D.M.Short in Shelby County ! The website is www.rootsweb.com/~txkaufma/civilwar/3txcav.htm
I think if you'll go to this site , you'll find your folks. Also, there are a couple of good books written about the 3rd Texas Cavalry.I think I even have a picture of their battle flag which had several of their battle honors written on it in white ink or paint ( Elkhorn Tavern , Iuka, Corinth , etc). This was tough fighting unit that saw plenty of combat from Indian Territory to the Atlanta Campaign to the debacle at Franklin and Nashville, Tenn. Considering the battles your two men must have gone through ( especially the disaster at Franklin) , it is a miracle that they survived the war.
This was a fun hunt.
Best Regards, Craig Morin
