Re: Finding Captain Willke's company

Well, the CAH (Center for American History, nee Barker Texas History Center) here in Austin has 2 copies of Big Guns (they have everything including multiple copies of the 1840 immigrant guide to Texas that would make another project of mine way better if it were at the Austin History Center 8) ). I'm going to have to go there sometime in the course of this project so if you have any specific requests I can look them up.

That's cool about the ceremony, I'm only starting to get out of my 20th c. history nook, but what Texan historian can long neglect the Civil War? I need to do my reading, but 12 hours of grad classes might limit that.

As an aside, I found a reference to August Scholz, founder of Scholz's Beer Garden in Austin (opened 1866, still in operation), serving under an H. Willke (sic) for the duration. I am waiting on the Austin German Heritage Society historian for info on his service.
