Re: Help with Cureton, 25th Texas Cav

Pvt. John W. Cureton should not be confused with Calvin M. Cureton, former Chief Justice of the State of Texas who is buried in the State Cemetery in Austin. Calvin M. Cureton was the grandson of Capt. James J. "Jack" Cureton.

In March 1862, Capt. James J. Cureton raised a company for Col. J.M. Norris Frontier Regiment of Mounted Volunteers at Camp Belknap in Young County. In March 1864, Capt. James Cureton was in Major William Quayle's Regiment of the 1st Frontier District at Decatur in Wise County.

Captain James J. Cureton is buried in the family cemetery at Walnut Springs in Bosque County.
