A number of Texas Confederate officers who were killed in the War Between the States are buried in the Texas State Cemetery and 2047 Confederate veterans and their wives are also buried in the Texas State Cemetery who died in the Confederate Soldiers Home after 1889.

The exception to the burial regulations was J. Frank Dobie who was buried in the State Cemetery in 1964 by permission of the governor and a vote by the state legislature.
