Hello. In regard to my first posting on this topic, what I said was that Harper was there when Johnston was brought in.
Not that Johnston was being treated, but at the aid station when the soldiers brought him there.
Johnston's men wept openly, etc.
What I considered ironic is that both men had the same type of wound, but as Johnston's severed the artery he had beld to death.
J. T. Harper died of old age and Johnston's life was cut short simply as much as anything because of how the wound was made in his body.
I have been to Shiloh and seen the place that is marked as the place he was found.
So my story while it may have not been published as part of Shelby Foote's byline, is still factual.
