W. H. Flemming appears on the 1860 census of Red River County TX as age 44, a wealthy slaveholder, born in North Carolina. His company organized at Savannah TX, March 4, 1862. All Confederate military commands not already enrolled for a term of three years or the war were required by general order to hold new elections and reorganize under the law of April 16, 1862. Alexander's Regiment did so on June 27, 1862. At this time Ebenezer Titus was elected captain of Company "A" and W. H. Flemming dropped from the roll. Due to his age, Flemming was not required to reenlist as a younger man would have been.
2nd Texas Partisan Rangers was an alternate name for Alexander's 34th Texas Cavalry Regiment, known in the field as Alexander's Cavalry. The other command you mentioned as sharing the same alternate name (2nd Texas Partisan Rangers) was Chisum's Texas Cavalry Regiment. This command had been recruited by Col. B. Warren Stone and has no connection with Alexander's Texas Cavalry. Both share the same alternate name, 2nd Texas Partisan Rangers, which no doubt has confused many people over the years.
