I have not been able to find any information on the battalion other than the terse note recorded below.

George Martin

James Scott, Captain, Company B, was the only officer listed in this company.

Lt. Col. M. G. Settle commanded the Battaion

The muster roll of conscripts of February 2, 1864 at Camp Roberts, near Boaham, Texas, was the one and only roll taken of the battalion and it's six companies.

William Gilbert, Conscript, Company B, 1st Battalion Infantry, Texas State Troops, appears on a Muster Roll of conscripts in Captain James Scott's Company B, 1st Battalion Infantry, Texas State Troops, Lieut. Colonel M. G. Settle commanding.

Roll dated Camp Roberts near Bonham, Texas, February 2, 1864.

Remarks: Detailed as Miller

.........

Captain James Scott, age 40, resident of Fannin County, enrolled as a conscript January 31, 1864 at Camp Roberts and appears on a Statement of Regiments and Battalions of Texas State Troops, December 5, 1863 at Houston
Inspection Report J, No. 41; inclosure 75.

.........

Lieut. Colonel Marcus G. Settle, resident of Hopkins, County, age 44, 1st Battalion Infantry, Texas State Troops, appears on a Muster Roll of conscripts, Field and Staff, 1st Battalion Infantry, Texas State Troops, Lt. Col. M. G. Settle commanding; enrolled at Camp Roberts, near Bonham, Texas, under provisions of G. O. No. 14, Hdqrs. Dist. Tex., N. Mex. and Ariz., of date [sic] Jan. 20, 1864, by Lieut. A. McFarland, C. S. P. A.

1st Texas Infantry Battalion was assigned to the Northern Sub-district, District of TX, NM, AZ, Trans-Mississippi Department, October 1863 to January 1864

266 men are listed on the roster of the battalion

There are no records of engagements of the battalion and these troops probably saw little or no action except guard and post duty in the Red River valley counties. [http://gen.1starnet.com/civilwar/cunningd.htm]
