27th TX, Co. K

Bill,

Pvt. Hiram Abiff Willson, Co. K, 27th TX was living in Tyler County for over 14 years prior to 1861. His former home was San Augustine where he still owned land. Anyway, I know for certain this is the same soldier, but have no idea how he would/could have joined a company from faraway Lavaca County. Does that seem strange to you? Somehow I had the impression the company was from San Augustine County.

Hiram's grandson said he was captured at Hatchie Bridge and paroled. Since Hiram was 42 years old, he evidently did not have to return to service. He enlisted in the TST for the remainder of the war.
