Died at Knoxville Tn

My ancestor Cpl. AR (Adam Reed) Bowen served with Co. F 32nd Tex. Cav. He enlisted in Marion Co. Texas. It looks like he served 6-8 months active then the last two muster cards show him in a hospitafor several months in Knoxville Tn. An old fam. Bible states he died there in 1862.

Question :If he was in a hospt. for several months, wouldn't he most likely have been wounded rather than sick? Was the 32nd Tex. Cav. in any battles prior to 1862 whereby he could have been wounded?
What would have been the most likely hospital in Knoxville? ( I'm assuming there would only be but a few.) Wonder if deaths were recorded in the states Vital Statistics records. The family would like to recover the remains if possible. Any info, suggestions appreciated. Will share info.
