I have no other information about him. That is what makes it very hard to get started narrowing down possibilities. It most likely will take finding a captain in the Rangers that fits. I found Texas Rangers that fit, there are a few John Clarks around the right time period and in at least one case could be the same one who signed back up. I am hoping to find a family member that remembers a captain in the Rangers that fits. I purchased an old leather bag off ebay that has J.W. Clark Capt. Texas Ranger on it. I took a chance buying it (which I never do), but I used to collect Civil War weapons so I do know some about relics. After receiving it and believing it was original, I showed it to someone who said it was original and was from the Indian War Period. Which would be from the late 1860s to the early 1890s. Also it most likely was made for him. So I was able to get it narrowed down by the dates it was made, but without his age it is still a tough one. That is why he also could have been a Confederate soldier from Texas. I feel I owe it to him to a least try to find him in history and maybe some day tell his story.
