Thanks Bill, Yes there was a Capt. J.W. Clark in the Rangers. I can't rule him out for sure. He was nominated by Pres. Sam Houston on May 31, 1837. This is earlier then who I am looking for but it is still very possible this could be him. Given IF he was 18 in 1837 he would have been 52 in 1870. I have many possibilities, this is stronger then some. I have been to the online Texas Archives and wrote them a letter by snail mail. I have several sites I am still researching. Tis the season to be busy. I search some every evening. I will get a few days off and get a little more time to look soon. Thanks again, James
