I believe the James Parker who was part of the 1st TX Sharpshooters was born in Gallatin, TN, married to Mary Jane Thorp after (or during) his move to Grayson Co. Texas. I have a copy of pension payments to Mary Jane Thorp Parker after James death in 1892. I also have a picture of his headstone (Dripping Springs, TX). Also, from an interview I had with James' granddaughter (Goldie Parker McGill) in the early '90s, I learned that James was captured (Vicksburg??), made prisoner of war (Camp Morton, IN), and became a galvanized yankee in April, 1865. {Confederates became galvanized yankees only with the guarantee that they would be exclusively assigned to western territory forts fighting indians.} While serving at Ft. Laramie, James lost an arm to an infection following a small pox vaccination. He showed up back in Tx 3 years after the war ended, and lived the rest of his life near Sherman, TX.
