Brad, you hit the jackpot on Barrows in the 42nd Va. Here is what I have

BARROW, ABSALOM FERDINAND: 1st Lt., Co. F. Born 3/42. 1860 cen., age 18, laborer, Dyer's Store P.O., Henry County. Joined F/42nd Va. in Henry County 5/24/61. Enl. 6/22/61 in Henry County. Present in unit 10/18/61. Promoted Quartermaster Sgt. by 10/31/61 when present in unit. Present in unit, Quartermaster Sgt., 12/31/61. Promoted Sgt. Maj. by 2/28/62 when present in unit. Elected 2nd Lt. 4/21/62. Present in unit 6/30/62, 9/22/62 and 10/31/62. Wd., right elbow by gunshot, 12/14/62, Fredericksburg, while commanding skirmishers of regiment. On convalescent leave to about 11/30/63 when returned to unit. Remained with unit, "but performed no duty" due to disability, to 12/14/63 when he submitted resignation due to disability, “anchylosis of right elbow joint,” from 12/62 wound. Johnson’s division medical examination board found: “Right arm at elbow anchylosed at half flexion with partial loss of use of hand. Can do duty of his office but with pain and much inconvenience.” Promoted to 1st Lt. by 1/9/64 when resignation accepted. Listed in 1st ed. as Ferdinand A. Barrow. Postwar tobacconist, Glade Spring, Washington County, 1870. Machine agent, Wythe County, 1880. Shoemaker, San Bernadino, California, 1900 Died there 1908.

BARROW, ABSALOM FLOURNOY: Pvt., Co. F. Born 3/29/49. Living, age 1, Henry County, 1850. Enl. 3/13/64 near Orange C.H. Captured 5/12/64 Spotsylvania C.H. Point Lookout, Md., 5/18/64 to 8/3/64. Elmira, N.Y., 8/6/64 to 10/11/64. Point Lookout 10/14 to 29/64 when, as an invalided prisoner, was paroled for exchange. Received for exchange 11/15/64 Venus Point, Savannah River, Ga. Paroled 4/9/65 Appomattox C.H. Postwar Henry County tobacco factory worker, 1870-1880, and farmer 1900-1910. Applied for pension, age 57, in Henry County 3/30/1906. Living Henry County, age 70, in 1920, and in Rockingham County, N.C., age 81, in 1930. Died, acute myocarditis and hypostatic pneumonia, age 87, Draper, Rockingham County, N.C., 8/5/1936. Buried Wyatt Cem., near Blue Knob Mountain, Henry County. Family story indicated that he walked from Appomattox to Leatherwood, Henry County in 1865, most of the way barefoot because his shoes gave out on him; he “manufactured ‘spirits’ for the government until Prohibition;” and “In his later years, he had a gallon jug of moonshine…under his bed. He would take a couple of swigs as soon as his feet hit the deck every morning. He said he needed it to get him started.”

BARROW, BENJAMIN FLOURNOY: Pvt., Co. F. Erroneously listed in 1st ed. as member of 42nd Va. on the basis of Union POW records and NA CSR labeled B.F. Barrer. Some information in 1st ed. that was thought to pertain to him actually pertained to Benjamin Franklin Barrow, Pvt., B/21st Va. Cav.

BARROW, DAVID: Pvt., Co. F. Born Leatherwood, Henry County. 1860 cen., age 39, farmer, Dyer's Store P.O., Henry County. Enl. 3/17/62 in Henry County. Signed bounty receipt roll 3/27/62. Died, typhoid fever, Charlottesville hospital 5/28/62. Buried there, University of Va. Confederate Cem.

BARROW, PETER THOMAS: Pvt., Co. F. Born 9/5/46. 1860 cen., age 14, Dyer's Store P.O., Henry County. Enl. 3/21/64 in Henry County. Captured 5/12/64 Spotsylvania C.H. (C.S. record). Remained absent from unit through 10/31/64. Union POW records do not support his capture. Postwar store clerk, Rockingham County, N.C., 1870; grocer, Danville, 1880. Lumber merchant and dealer, Danville, 1900-1910. Died 12/15/1910. Buried Green Hill Cem., Danville.
