Re: Burials from Gen.Hospital #11

Charles.....I'm doing some research for you. "The List" as far as I know is not available to the public...YET. And closely guarded. I'm not in the SCV anymore for far more reasons than I can explain without a bar involved. Haha. The intention of the Virginia Division of the SCV was to attempt to make Oakwood the "Arlington of the South". In addition to the vast improvements that they have made at Oakwood, they submitted requests to the Veterans Admimistration for close to 16,000 government headstones. Obviously the VA was overwhelmed with this request and denied it. Now they (the VA) have instituted a policy that only a direct descendant can request a headstone for their ancestor. So all of the multiple headstone dedications we used to do for the UDC and SCV are now on hold. (I'm an artillery reenactor and have provided salutes for dozens of Confederate veterans at Hollywood, Oakwood, and other smaller rural cemeteries) It's all about politics and costs. I really don't know all of the details. But I've got a request in for what you are looking for. I think the holder of "The List" wants to publish it when it is complete. And he is very thorough. We'll have to wait and see. Sorry for taking so long to respond. Just know that the VA Division, SCV is doing a lot of work to get Oakwood marked and maintained.
