Talladega recruits - 1861

In the "Talladega Watchtower", July 19, 1861, I found the following:
"That veteran soldier, and Commissary General for all our volunteer Companies Maj., Wm. P. Shelley left our depot on last Thursday with the following recruits for Capt. C.M. Shelley's company now in Virginia.
Names Age Weight
W.P. Shelley 60 185
J.F. Puckett 43 165
M.A. Rowe 19 141
J.M.T. Caldwell 20 140
C.N. Johnson 21 135
A.P. Johnson 18 128
Elijah Garrett 19 140
P.E. Snape 18 135
T.L. McCain 22 150
Elihu Armstrong 25 160
Isaac N. Morris 36 163
T.J. Wyatt 20 140
J.P. Caldwell 19 155
G.N. Scott 21 125
D.M. Buchanan 18 125
J.M. Yarborough 155
C.M. Loyd 31 112
J.W. Dawberry 31 145
B.F. Williams 45 156
W.H. Buchanan 21 135"

I found it unusual that the weights of the men were included in a mustering roster. These statistics can be found in P.O.W. records on occassion, but this is the first time that I've seem them recorded in a newspaper.
