I assume we are talking about the same list (Register) which includes both sick and wounded for just one year. I have it listed as "filed as Chapter VIII, volume 5, handwritten journal." We have made extensive use of this Register in our book on the 17th Alabama.
We describe the Register in the book as follows: "The copy of the Register located at the National Archives is not a microfilm copy, but a book of large journal size. The existing copy of the Register was hand-copied from the original record that was loaned to Washington, DC, by Thomas M. Owen of Montgomery, Alabama, and returned to Owen on completion. The copy was prepared under the direction of the Military Secretary's office of the War Department in July 1904. The original copy of the Register probably no longer exists."
Within the last couple of years, a microfilm copy (F326.M2M3) of the Register was made for Wallace State College in Hanceville, AL
